Blackberry 'Oregon Thornless'

Oregon Thornless or Evergreen Thornless is a very late season, thornless selection with characteristic deeply cut leaves that are carried throughout the winter. The fruit has a good blackberry flavour and is of medium size with a bright, shiny appearance. Good autumn leaf colour. A self-fertile variety.
Height/spread: 8-10ft (2-3m)
Site: Grow in sun or partial shade.
Soil Type: Any good soil, mulch in spring.
Fruit: Medium size fruit. Good flavour. Thornless.
Pruning: Blackberries fruit on canes in their second year of growth. Tie in new canes in the spring as they grow, to fruit the following year. In the autumn fruited older canes can be pruned out at the base after harvesting.
Picking Time: Late August
Care: Mulch with well rotted manure or compost in the spring. Keep plants well watered during the summer months. Net fruits as they ripen to protect from birds.
