This month Groves Nurseries were delighted to donate and sow wild flower seeds to an existing bank at Bridport Leisure Centre to attract loads of lovely Bridport Bees (not the football team!) and butterflies. The planted area in the car park will explode in a riot of colour in the Spring and be a haven for the local wildlife. The adjacent area in the car park will be given up to house two electric car charging points. Charlie Groves, a regular user of the Leisure Centre himself said "I was very pleased to be able to help Bridport Leisure Centre out with this project. It will be a lovely sight next spring when this flower bed bursts into colour, it will also mean less mowing for the Leisure centre staff. It's actually and ideal time for a project like this. The ground has been warmed through the summer and the autumn rain is perfect to get things germinating nicely."
Why not have a go at growing your own wild flower patch? You can find scatter packs of wild flower seed in the garden centre right now.
If you would like to learn more about the importance of encouraging bees into our gardens be sure to come along to our Apple Day on the 20th of October when the West Dorset Bee Keepers Association will be on hand to show you everything you need to know about these important insects.
