Vive le Violette!
We've done it again - or rather Clive, Di and Chris have!
Another award in France for our beautiful violets! Clive & Di have just returned from the International Violet Conference in Toulouse, France where they bagged 1st prize for a tree violet ( see below - bottom row middle) Chris Groves (Clive & Di’s youngest son) also gained 1st prize in the species category for his wonderful photos of rosulate violets (see below - bottom row left and right photos) taken when he was botanising in Patagonia.
Facing stiff competition the judges said the plant was a ‘specimen d’exception’ and for those who need a translation that means an exceptional specimen! The judges should know as Violets are the city's emblematic flower, harvested in the region as early as the 19th century and still today massively popular with traditional flower gardeners throughout the world. The city has held its annual festival since 1952 with many exhibitors - not just of plants but sweets, spirits, perfumes and other creations made from Violets.
Hurray, it’s that Violet time of year again - our favourite and they're on sale now.
