Blackberry 'Black Butte'

Black Butte is a vigorous blackberry with long, trailing, thorned canes. A self-fertile variety with open canes for easy picking. The white flowers are followed by large, dark blackberries in late summer.
Height/spread: 8ft (2.5m)
Site: Grow in sun or partial shade.
Soil Type: Any good soil, mulch in spring.
Fruit: Very large fruit. Heavy cropping
Pruning: Blackberries fruit on canes in their second year of growth. Tie in new canes in the spring as they grow, to fruit the following year. In the autumn fruited older canes can be pruned out at the base after harvesting.
Picking Time: Mid July
Care: Mulch with well rotted manure or compost in the spring. Keep plants well watered during the summer months. Net fruits as they ripen to protect from birds.
