Description
The gardeners choice, Cobra are black seeded for early production. The pods produced are about 7mm in diameter, long and straight and can be harvested over a long period. They can be used for indoor or outdoor production. They are the best French Bean to achieve the most tasty flavour. Climbing beans such as this variety should be supported much like you would support runner beans. This family of beans is frost tender and cannot be sown until the weather has warmed up.
When to Sow: April to June.
Where to Sow: Early sowings can be made under glass at a temperature of 16°C, sow 3 seeds per 8cm (3in) pot filled with seed sowing compost. Outside sowings can be made from May onwards into the growing site 5cm (2in) deep. Sow 2-3 seeds every 20cm (8in) apart with rows spaced 60cm (24in) apart.
What to do next: Seedlings sown under glass should be gradually hardened off before planting outside in late May to the above spacing, once all risk of frost has past. Provide support by canes or netting for plants to climb. Water regularly during dry weather.
Maturity: July to September.
Handy Tip: Sow a few seeds early in large containers under glass for an early crop or sow late summer under glass to extend the cropping season into the autumn.
Nutritional Value: A good source of vitamins A, K and folic acid.
