Bright red, round heads that are well wrapped with numerous leaves. Ribs are white and crisp, making a tasty addition to a mixed salad.
- When to Sow: April to August
- Plant out: May to September
- Harvest: June to October
- Where to Sow: Outdoors - sow thinly where they are to crop, 1.5cm (½") deep, directly into finely-prepared soil, in rows spaced 30cm (12in) apart. Can also be sown under glass early in the year or in autumn into modules filled with seed sowing compost and transplanted out, filling vacant spaces on the plot.
What to do Next: Thin out direct sown seedlings to 25-30cm (10-12in) apart between the plants. Keep well watered in dry spells. Transplant modules to the same spacings as above.
Handy Tip: Modules can be transplanted in the autumn under cloches or polytunnels to extend the cropping season.
