An upright, deciduous shrub with red-green winter stems. The green leaves turn a vibrant red in the autumn before they fall. The white flowers bloom in flat clusters all summer and are followed by black berries in the autumn. Fully hardy UK native plant. Great for an informal hedge.
Site/soil: Will tolerate most sites and soils.
Plant out: 45-60cm (2.5-3ft) apart
Approx growth rate: 30-45cm (1-1½ft) per year.
Maintenance: Cut back stems in late winter or early spring as young wood provides the best winter colour.
