Corylus avellana/ Grow in any soil, in sun or partial shade.
Hazel has distinctive yellow catkins in spring followed by hazel nuts in the autumn. The rounded leaves turn a butter-yellow before they fall. Great hedge for wildlife. Grow as part of a native mixed hedge.
Plant out: 75-90cm(2.5-3ft) apart
Approx growth rate: 30cm (1ft) per year
Maintenance: Prune deciduous hedges in winter.
